Personal Log fully supports Balloon Help in every window and dialog.  

Drag & Drop Support:
If you have Apple's Drag & Drop technology available on your Macintosh, you may drag text in all text windows, though you may only drop text into editable entry windows.

Apple Script Support:
Personal Log has limited support for Apple Script and other scripting sytems based on Apple Events. Please note that this version of Personal Log  is not a "fully scriptable" program according to Apple’s standards. In fact, Personal Log’s current implementation of Apple Script support is considered properly implemented because it does not use Apple’s recommended apple event suites but instead uses custom apple events. I, the programmer, just wanted to throw in some rudimentary scripting support.  Apple’s recomended way of implementing scripting can be very complex even for the simplest tasks (and thus tough to program). The next version of Personal Log will have Apple Script fully implemented in Apple’s recommended way, but for now, please be content with the scripting support that Personal Log does provide. Sample scripts are provided with this package for your inspection.

Note: Unless you have Apple Script installed in your computer, you can not ultilize the scripting features of Personal Log. This, however, does not limit the ultility of other features in Personal Log.

Reconstructing Corrupt Log Files:
Although you may never have this problem, Personal Log provides the capability of reconstructing log files that appear to be corrupt in some way (e.g., if a log file opens to a log window that is partially off the screen). If you think a log file is corrupt, try reconstructing it by pressing <option>-<shift>-R after selecting that log file’s log window.  Personal Log will then go through the log file's entry information and throw out any problematic entry which may have caused corruption to occur. Please note that  this reconstruction mechanism is not smart enough to rebuild a damaged entry.  

Future Plans:
Currently, the only plan I have for Personal Log version 2.0 is to implament support for the text services suite of Apple Events.  This will have two impacts on Personal Log: first, Personal Log will be fully scriptable, and second, you may use third party spelling checkers in entry windows. If you have any other ideas or needs in future releases, feel free to contact me. I also encourage you to pay the shareware fee now and not wait until the next release as I  will raise the fee for verion 2.0 to reflect the larger amount of work that I put into the program. 

Localization and Non-US Systems:
Personal Log is a fully localizable program. If you are interested in making a localized copy and can help translate, please contact me.

Please note that Personal Log will have problems in the Search Setup dialog when running on a two-byte script system, such as the Chinese or Japanese version of System 7. The problem arises in the Search Setup dialog, and is caused by the way the date picker parses a date string when the date string contains non-Roman characters.  This problem can be fixed by setting the system’s date form to a fully Romanized form.
